Government Employment - Why Smart People Prefer It

Even with the preference given to private employment over government employment by the new generation, there are several individuals who would prefer being an employee of the government. Here are some advantages of government employment that you should keep in mind while looking out for a job:
Better Stability
Nothing spells stability better than a government job. If you have a government job, unless and until you do not do anything wrong, or God forbid, if the Government and Nation you live in ceases to exist, you will never be out of a job.
Private companies may come and private companies go, but it is seldom that a government employee has ever had to bother about aspects like recession, global meltdown, volatile market, etc.
Better Salary
It is a myth that the people in the private sector are paid better than their counterparts in the government sector. While it may be true that the private company employees get paid more than the people in the public sector, it is only correct for the people at the higher posts in the private sector. People in the lower posts in private enterprises are sometimes liable to make even lesser than the people in the public service.
More Off Days than in the For Profit Sector
This is a truth that cannot be denied. The government jobs have more paid holidays as compared to private businesses. Private enterprises usually have a number of compulsory holidays and then some holidays that are optional.
This is because the private companies are progress oriented, most of them are compensated financially and therefore can offer fewer holidays as compared to the public sector. Private company employees are quite satisfied with the fact that they get paid for working on the days that are optional holidays.
Employee Benefits
One of the greatest advantages of working in the public sector are the benefit packages. The medical and other benefits are far greater for a person who works in the public sector as compared to people in the private sector. Private sector employees may get immediate medical and other benefits, but the public sector employees have a pension even after they have retired from active service.
Fewer Work hours
Another important aspect of working in paid by tax payer jobs is the fewer work hours and stricter work timings. In a private organization, after a few months of working, you would find yourself waiting after hours and working for inconsiderate hours. However, this is not allowed in the public sector.
